Constantin Brancusi: A Vanguard Artist

Of Romania, Constantin Brancusi, born in 1876, sculpted, painted, and photographed throughout the duration of his artistic career. He is considered by some as the father of modern sculpture.

Brancusi worked primarily with 4 mediums in his sculpting practice: limestone, casted bronze, wood, and marble to construct highly symbolic forms of the things grounded by reality.

His works are true emblems of visual reduction.

On view at The Museum of Modern Art until February 18, 2019 although you won’t be missing out on much as I believe most if not all the works are part of MoMA’s private collection. 🙂

Desirable Traits

I’ve written down a list of traits I find most desirable in a human:

Discretion

Understanding

Uprightness

Love

Faithfulness

Discipline

Righteousness

Wisdom

Humility

A study of these and I find I have much to improve on.

It’s easy for us to forget these most important things when the things we chase after for which we can see the end result/return more easily/tangibly start to consume us.

Better to write them down, imprint them on your skin, sear them in your heart, then to forget and find yourself lost in the chase.

The chase is long. And the human race has proven time and time again that it’s a gigantic, messy blob prone to dissatisfactions, strivings, and wanderings.

It’s good to re-evaluate regularly what you are about, who you are, and why you are pursuing the things you are pursuing.

It would be a pity if you found yourself at the long tail of a track some day… having run all your life… having forgotten the why.. so far away from the person you initially dreamed you’d be.

Best Works of Helmut Newton, “King of Kink”

Helmut Newton is a photographer best known for his erotica fueled snapshots and a taste for capturing fun… stripped bare. He was regarded by many as the “King of Kink” and you can go back to so many issues of Vogue easily with his indelible footprint.

U.S. Vogue May 1993, “White Mischief”

Here are a couple of my favorite works from this talented German Australian:

While I don’t appreciate all his works, I do truly think he was the best of his kind for what he did.

There is so much life and mischief captured through a single portrait– he did it so well.

Fashion Across the World

We live in a world with brands from all across the world offering international shipping, employing international influencers, and commissioning out the wildest of digital marketing tactics, desperate to reach that perfect customer. So really, what’s stopping you anymore from getting that perfect wardrobe that emblemizes you, not just a piece of the corner you, but wholly you?

Rock fashion from across the world, and support some talented designers along the way.

Here’s a couple of brands I love and support:

South Africa, Pichulik:

In 2010, 6 out of 10 of the fastest growing world economies were recorded to be from Africa. A gold mine of natural resources, Africa has been instrumental to these economies’ growths. Did you also know that it is housing a thriving presence of eco-focused designers? There’s a lot of natural talent to be found, but unfortunately these fashion talents are experiencing slow to no growth on that end due to a plenitude of market barrier reasons. So here’s a super cool designer brand to watch out for and support. Let’s get this future fashion and eco-friendly capital up-to-speed, shall we?

There are a lot of talented brands out there and the ones with merit often share the same manufacturers. The ones less known among this pool sometimes have more room for innovation/testing and end up churning out some fantastic designs, and sometimes– they’re just a whole lot better, with more advanced specs and competitive prices to boot– except for the lack of exposure, branding, and marketing power.

Take this brand for example:

Thailand, Kalis Activewear:

Just look at all the boss-ness reverberating from these brands’ souls.

In a world of purported connectivity, why have a brand come to you? Grab discovery by the balls and find those gems yourself. Happy shopping!

A Prelude to Spring: Things I’m Loving

Our climate is in flux, the Great Barrier Reef is at risk (“in danger!” says Karlie), and New York is experiencing a true Four Seasons.

While concerns over climate change is becoming a veritable thing this season, spring to me sometimes just feels like… spring, and I’m left feeling giddy.

For those that are with me! Here’s some beauty to herald in our months of bloom with:
